Lutheran Social Services Celebrates National Adoption Month

“The World is Our Neighborhood”

November is National Adoption month, a month set aside to raise awareness about the adoption of children and youth. This year's theme is “The world is our neighborhood”

“When I was very young, most of my childhood heroes wore capes, flew through the air, or picked up buildings with one arm.  But, as I grew, my heroes changed, so that now I can honestly say that anyone who does anything to help a child is a hero to me.”  Fred Rogers, a.k.a. Mister Rogers.   The world is our neighborhood, so be a hero by advocating for the 134 million children in need of homes - help a child find a forever family.

You can meet some of these heroes!  For the month of November, each LSS office will host an adoption information session with families who have adopted internationally, domestically or from the State of Wisconsin.  You are encouraged and welcome to attend to meet adoptive families and ask them questions about their adoption experience.  For details, visit our website www.lssadopt.org under news and events.

Since 1990, the nation has officially proclaimed November as National Adoption Month to focus attention on the increasing number of children waiting for placement with loving families.  Lutheran Social Services of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan, Inc. (LSS) is joining thousands of individuals, government agencies and child advocacy organizations across the nation in promoting National Adoption Month 2010 Campaign.

By creating forever families, adoption unites parents and children, links birth and adoptive relatives, and build friendships between fellow adoptive families. National Adoption Month is cause for celebration —an occasion to remember, appreciates, and announces the joy adoption can bring to families.
