Can I seek help from an agency even if I am uncertain of my parenting plan?
Yes.  A counselor will be able to talk with you and help provide options.  You are in no way obligated to make an adoption plan - the choice is always yours.

Is there a cost for pregnancy services?
No.  All services and counseling for expectant parents are provided free of charge.

Does the birth father have to be involved in the process?
Lutheran Social Services encourages the involvement of both expectant parents in the process.  However, regardless of your relationship with the birth father there are details/steps that the birth father will need to take to ensure a secure placement for your baby.  LSS will assist in working with the birth father and ensure that all the legal procedures are in place to ensure security for your baby.

If the birth father does not wish to be involved, the birth father's legal rights can be terminated in a court of law through the use of a disclaimer and consent form and/or failure to appear in court on the scheduled day for termination of parental rights.

I am under the age of 18; do I need permission from my parents?
You will not need the permission of your parents/guardian to place your child for adoption.  Your decision to place is confidential and will be respected as such throughout your adoption process.

What if I have a change of heart after I have terminated my parental rights?
Once a Judge signs an Order terminating parental rights of both birth parents the decision is a final decision.  LSS will counsel with you so that you make the most informed parenting decision for you and your baby.

What if my baby is born with a medical problem, how will the agency be able to help my baby and me?
If your child is born with any special or medical needs, LSS will work with the birth family to ensure a secure adoptive placement with a family of your choosing that is prepared and educated in caring for a child with special or medical needs.  LSS will work with birth family to help secure good pre-natal health care.

Does Lutheran Social Services work with families of all faiths?
At LSS, services are open to all - Lutheran and non-Lutheran.
